COURSES

BASIC RIDER COURSE (BRC) Cost: $205 Resident - $275 Non-Resident

Prerequisites: Valid drivers license or permit. You MUST present your drivers license the first day of class. This course is designed for beginner or new riders who are interested in learning to ride skillfully and safely. A good sense of balance is required (must have recent bicycle experience). We offer both 2-day and 2 ½ day formats. Both formats use the same curriculum and include the same number of actual training hours, but the 2 ½ day format is conducted at a slightly more relaxed pace.

Approximately 70% of the course is on-cycle instruction. Motorcycles are supplied for this course and helmets are provided, if needed. Half or "shorty" helmets are not recommended as they may put the user at unnecessary additional risk. You will learn everything from mounting to maximum braking and swerving. Upon successful completion of the course, the riding and written portion of the Colorado motorcycle license test may be waived. Many insurance companies offer a discount to graduates of this course. The Motorcycle Safety Foundation and Colorado Department of Transportation certify this course. Refunds may be made to those who withdraw 48 hours prior to the first class session. There will be a $5 processing fee for withdrawals. Rain dates will be announced by the instructor. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early for each class session. Maximum of 12 participants per section.

ADDITIONAL RIDING CLASS (ARC) Cost is $100 Resident - $115 Non-Resident

If you have completed the Basic Rider Course (BRC) -- passed or failed -- and would like more training, you may be eligible for our (approximately) 6 hour Additional Riding Class. Please call the office (303-789-3264) for more information.

INTERMEDIATE RIDER COURSE (BRC2) Cost: $80 Resident - $125 Non-Resident

Prerequisites: (M ENDORSEMENT REQUIRED) A valid motorcycle license, your own street legal motorcycle (motorcycle will be subject to a safety inspection), current registration and proof of insurance for the motorcycle used in the training.

This is the MSF BRC-2 (formerly the ERC or ERCLW). This one-day course is designed for the licensed rider with riding experience and is conducted on your own motorcycle*. Your motorcycle will be subject to a safety inspection. You must provide current registration and proof of insurance. A valid motorcycle license is required for enrollment*. Completion of the basic course is not a prerequisite for this class. The course helps the experienced rider improve riding skills and increase riding enjoyment by developing the mental and physical skills found lacking in the accident involved rider. Many major insurance carriers recognize this course for discounts. Resident cost is $80.00. Non-Resident cost is $125.00. Discounts may be available for organizations that pay for 12 people at once.
• Testing for the Colorado motorcycle endorsement and loaner bikes are available for an additional fee.

INTERMEDIATE RIDER COURSE WITH LICENSE TESTING (BRC2LW) Cost: $100 Resident - $145 Non-Resident

This course is designed for experienced motorcyclists. If you have any doubts about your riding abilities, please consider a Basic Rider Course. For your own safety, and that of other course participants, if you can not demonstrate competent riding skills at the beginning of this course, you will not be allowed to continue. The course includes both a written test and a riding test. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive a completion certificate which waives further testing with the Colorado DMV for a motorcycle endorsement. At most locations, the course is conducted on our motorcycles.

ADVANCED RIDER COURSE Cost is $150

This is the MSF ARC-ST. A valid motorcycle endorsement is required for this course. Riders must provide their own street-legal and safe motorcycle. Based on the Military SportBike RiderCourse (but open to all types of motorcycles) this challenging one-day course is designed for riders with real-world time and mileage on their personal motorcycle who desire to learn and practice more in-depth riding techniques. Participants will be evaluated throughout the course; those not meeting the objectives will not be allowed to continue. Classroom activities use small group discussions and interactive activities to address personal risk management strategies; to discuss options for cornering, braking and swerving; and to improve visual perception to identify collision traps. On-cycle range exercises provide practice in cornering, braking, swerving and evading. There is no skill test in this course.

Top Gun (Civilian) Riding Course Cost $250.00 for both resident and non-resident

Sharpen your slow riding skills and you will greatly improve your overall skills.

This motorcycle riding course, as presented by former police motor officer/trainer Don Gunn, concentrates on the low-speed maneuvers taught to police officers for the purposes of increasing riding proficiency as well as confidence. Learn to operate a motorcycle at its limits, with emphasis on turning in the smallest area, use of transmission, clutch and brakes for the highest level of control, and practice maximum braking and brake-and-escape maneuvers. Smaller-sized training bikes are used the first day of this two-day course; students are encouraged to use their own (safe, street-legal) bike on the second day. This course is for experienced riders only.

- Course is 2 days

BEGINNER TRIKE/SIDECAR TRAINING Cost $225

ABATE of Colorado believes that 3-wheeled motorcycles are significantly different in handling dynamics and characteristics from 2-wheeled motorcycles. ABATE will be offering separate training for both the novice and experienced sidecarist or trike rider beginning this summer at 2 of our locations. For those who choose to enjoy the sport of motorcycling on three wheels, we are offering this program in our current Rider Ed program. The course is similar to the motorcycle course; it is practiced in a safe, controlled environment. This course is designed to provide the rider with knowledge, confidence and 3-wheeled driving skills.

ADVANCED TRIKE/SIDECAR TRAINING Cost $125

Prerequisite: Valid drivers license or permit. Participants must have sidecar/trike riding experience. This course is approximately 8 hours long. You must provide your own rig for this course. You must provide proof of registration and insurance. This is not a beginner's course. Exercises included in this course, but not limited to, steering, throttle and brake control in turns, cornering skills, swerving, and steering reversion on a sidecar. There are also 6 classroom lessons to include defensive driving, driving in traffic, roads and more.

RIDER COACH UPDATE No Charge

ACCIDENT SCENE MANAGEMENT Cost $75

This Bystander Assistance Program (BAP) is a one-day community education program directed toward motorcycle riders and passers-by. The concept of the program is directed specifically toward the assessment and treatment of the injured rider as well as how to safely administer care. The goals of the Bystander Assistance Program are to enhance the survival rate and reduce severity of injuries for the injured riders of all open recreational vehicles. We expect to decrease the chance of rescuer injury due to inappropriate actions at a crash scene.

CPR - First Aid Cost is $50
